Ipad soft goods / accessory design
Concepts were explored for the ipad before it was released and we had to also come up with potential uses for the product. I was involved from sketch to production of all the initial soft goods design. We are working on more stuff right now which i will update once they are launched. I designed the following cases. The traveller is currently the best selling case on the case-mate portfolio along with the checkmate gelli design i created. The checkmate and kaleidoscope gelli cases were also voted among the 12 best cases for the iPad by PC Magazine®.
Traveller : Felt/folio style case for the ipad.
For the iPad user on the go, the Traveler offers the best of both worlds – convenience and durability. Felt is a material that has been very underlooked and ignored in the world of accessories, this project was a study into bringing about a harmony between luxury and commonality. While the felt exhibits the qualities of a very common, simplistic material, the leather adds the luxury aspect to the product. The combination of both the felt and the leather create a harmonious symbiotic relationship. Main focus was to create a portfolio style case to be able to carry the Ipad on the go along with other accessories.

The Gelli Kaleidoscope project involved creating graphic patterns to be laser engraved on to the inside of TPU cases being made for the ipad. The design and product development were completed way before the ipad was launched. My job was to come up with graphic patterns that represented a male and a female demographic. My inspirations on this project were to look at various pinstripes and also derive a balance. Using shapes like the triangle which denotes male and female i was able to come up with a simple pattern that was adapted and called : Check mate “. Dimensionality was another key factor when i thought of these patterns as the inside of certain triangles were frosted to give emphasis on the subtle lines crisscrossing each other.
The second pattern was for the female demographic. I thought of connectivity, independent, strong willed, balanced and universal. These keywords translated to looking at various patterns which would connect with these emotions. I was finally able to derive inspiration from the Trellis pattern and created this weave of swirls. The swirls depict the emotional side of a female where there are various connections and balance throughout their lives. These renders were of the final product done for the website till the product arrived. However the picture below is of the actual product.
