accessories - cases
As lead designer at case-mate i worked under insane deadlines and a very fast paced environment. Great attention to studying trends, colors, materials and patterns were explored as the market segment is very cluttered with no form variations. My focus here has always been innovation, any accessory without function is nothing but a novelty. Extensive design and manufacturing communication was necessary along with creating marketing materials, picture mockups, project scheduling, sourcing and pricing which lead to the ID Case being the biggest seller of 2009.
I.D Case
Some of the main considerations when i started this project was to convince the team of the placement of the cards and the convenience it brings about in the product. Using various mockup models and also conducting some lifestyle studies i was able to convince the leadership team to invest in the design above.

Say What ?? case
I wanted to create a case that would reflect a user’s individuality. A lot has been done with colors in this market, so i wanted to create a unique identity for the user. The metaphor i used was the phrase “ say what “ and using emoticons and phrases users would be able to express themselves. Using manufacturing processes to achieve the unique identity of the case, a dual shot injection molding process was explored.
I created several concepts with various themes which would appeal to teenagers and also to instill a sense of customization. Below are the final chose concepts. A very crafty suggestion was to add stickers which made the cases very expressive, the other design reflects emotions by emoticons.
Turtle case
One of the product line’s missing in case-mate’s portfolio was a line of super protective cases. My vision was to add based on research, 3 products that catered to various demographics. We looked into nature for inspiration to find balance and harmony. The turtle case was inspired by the turtle and i used that metaphor to design a case as unique as the animal itself. Hard plastic two piece snap shell with customizable outer silicon dampner.
Showing a very simple color study based on analyzing the demographics. The color tones reflected the bright colors often associated with tough products like power tools, construction equipment etc.
